No agency yet? Here is how beginners can find audition calls, prepare a simple profile, and avoid common mistakes on casting platforms.

You do not need a big reel on day one. You do need a clear photo, honest details, and a way to respond when a real call matches you.
Start with open calls, not only “big breaks”
Look for advertisements, student films, digital content, and regional work in your city. These roles often welcome newcomers and teach set etiquette faster than waiting for one film audition.
Build a minimal profile first
Use one recent headshot, your city, languages, height (for modelling), and a two-line bio about what you want to do (acting, modelling, both). Add credits only if they are real — empty is better than invented.
Read the brief before you apply
Age range, city, paid vs unpaid, and deadline matter. Applying to everything trains casting teams to skip your profile. Match the brief, then send one strong self-tape or link if asked.
Use Instagram and the app together
Many productions announce calls on Instagram first. Follow accounts that post verified opportunities in your city, and use the Bombay Casting app to apply when the same call is listed there — you keep proof of submission in one place.
Watch for red flags
Never pay upfront for “guaranteed” roles. Legitimate casting may ask for a portfolio or subscription on a platform, but should not pressure you for cash to “secure” a part.
