Many casting calls in India now ask for a self-tape before you are called in person. A clear, honest tape beats a over-produced one.

Use your phone — vertically or horizontally

Most briefs accept a phone recording. Lock exposure if your camera app allows it, and film in a quiet room. If the role is for social or UGC, vertical is often fine; for scene work, horizontal gives more room for framing.

Light your face, not the background

Stand facing a window in daylight, or put a soft light in front of you at eye level. Avoid strong backlight (window behind you) — your face will look dark on a small phone screen.

Frame head and shoulders for intro slates

Start with your name, city, and the role you are applying for. Then perform the lines or action the brief asks for. Keep the camera at eye level; avoid filming from below.

Keep the file short and easy to share

One consolidated clip is easier for casting teams than ten separate files. Export at reasonable quality; you do not need cinema-grade resolution for a first shortlist.

Where to submit

When a call is on Bombay Casting Company, apply in the app with the link or upload the brief specifies. If the post asks for a YouTube Short or Instagram Reel link, use a public link casting can open without logging in.
